What to Do in Madison, Wisconsin

Once you’ve had your fill of technology, you can ease away from the action to explore the city some. There are quite a few hidden gems in the city. Here’s our bucket list:

Try Some Cheese Curds

Cheese curds are a product of the cheese making process that do not turn into aged cheese. They can also be referred to as “squeaky cheese” due to the squeaking noise they make when you bite into them, but do not let that scare you away. They are a delicious snack either fresh or beer battered and fried. The place to give them a try is at The Old Fashioned, a tavern located on North Pinckney Street.

Enjoy a Kringle

If you find yourself wandering around Madison and looking for something to cure a sweet tooth, stop by Lane’s and get yourself a kringle. What is a kringle, you may ask? It is a large, flaky Danish pastry that is filled with fruit or nuts and covered in icing. It is a Wisconsin staple, and is now the Official State Pastry as of 2013.

Take a Brewery Tour with Hop Head Beer Tours

Hop Head Beer Tours offers weekly bus tours to different breweries, and now more recently they have started to include wineries and distilleries.

Watch a Piano Duel at the Ivory Room

Everyone’s heard of dueling banjos, but what about dueling pianos? The Ivory Room is a piano bar, following after the trend of piano bars in Chicago. If a night out on the town is up your alley, stop in for some classy and cozy entertainment as pianists play solo, or play or against one another. Duels happen Thursdays at 9 PM, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM.
