Written by Bree H | Oct 4, 2022 6:17:13 PM

This month we are spotlighting Global Recruiting Director, Dominic Ross. Dominic is a proud military and cheer father who is passionate and dedicated to both his family and his career. Dom has successfully led and propelled the recruiting team to match talented candidates with innovative businesses. Charismatic and strong-willed, Dom has proven to be a wonderful addition to V-Soft leadership and the V-Soft Family.

What Brought You to V-Soft?

What initially brought me to V-Soft was leadership. The team that Lonnie Gray has built was a team I knew I wanted to be a part of. I have been in the IT staffing business for 10 years. I started my career as an IT recruiter and, after 6 months of recruiting, found myself as one of the top recruiters in the entire company. I was then promoted to sales, and then to leadership, and have been in leadership ever since. The most rewarding part of the job is also the most challenging: our product is people. This makes each day vastly unique, making it a rewarding challenge, and I wouldn’t want to do anything else.

Any Interesting Stories in Your Line of Work?

There is one story that I will never forget. When I was a recruiter, I got a high-level developer a job who, at the time, lived in Texas. This consultant was going to relocate to Louisville for this job and was scheduled to start on a Monday. After packing up U-Haul, he and his wife, along with their young daughter began their drive to Louisville the Thursday before he was set to begin the job. Unfortunately, I received a call that day from the customer whom he'd be working for. They let me know that they had lost funding and would no longer be needing him to join their team.

I immediately called the consultant, and he pulled over on the side of the road to speak with me. On the phone, through tears, he said, “Dom, what am I supposed to do? I have my family in a U-Haul heading to Kentucky right now and I won't be able to provide for them. Should I turn around?” I confidently told him to keep driving, to trust me, and to keep his phone on him as I would be calling back. At that point, I took my drive to a whole new level, and before he arrived in Louisville, I had him scheduled for a phone interview (pre-covid) and got him a new job offer.

He started his new job the following Monday, and it even paid him $10K more than the original job. That is a high point of my career to this day.

What Do You Enjoy Doing in Your Free Time?

Three of Dom's children, Dominic Jr. (7), Brielle (12), and Krysta (13).

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family.  I have 4 kids, (1 in the army, 3 still in the household) and my oldest daughter, Krysta, does competitive cheerleading. If you are not familiar with competitive cheer, it means I get to spend a lot of money and a lot of time traveling all across the country for competitions. This takes up 99% of my free time.

What's a Fun Fact About Yourself?

Dom (Number 49) playing football for the University of Cincinnati.

I love sports! Primarily, I enjoy football, as I played and was the captain of the football team at the University of Cincinnati. I had several personal workouts with a few NFL teams, (Titans, Bengals, 49ers), yet I am a Cleveland Browns fan. (Sooner or later, we will win the Super Bowl, just hope it’s in my lifetime).

Any Favorite Things to Do in Louisville?

I enjoy playing pool with my fiancé Casey (don’t ask who wins more), taking bourbon tours, and finding local restaurants for me and my family to try. Although we go to a variety of restaurants, I don’t venture out of my “basic eating habits."
