Meet Laura Civille, our very own Consultant Care Associate. With over a year of experience at V-Soft, Laura has made a significant impact in her role. In addition to her working closely with our Consultants, Laura has recently undergone some major changes both personally and professionally. In this interview, we sat down with Laura to learn more about her passion for her job and her interests beyond the office.

Tell us about yourself, family, pets, school etc...

Hi, I’m Laura (I hate introductions, this makes me feel like I’m in class on the first day of school). Around a year ago I decided I needed a change, and it turns out I made some relatively big life changes in 3 months. I moved to Louisville from Cincinnati last July and then made a career change from insurance to staffing last September. I have a dog, his name is Lou, when I rescued him from the pound his name was Lucky Luciano, and I wasn’t creative enough to change it. Which has led to about 20 nicknames including Little Lou, Lucci Man, and the cutest dog to exist 😉.

What’s something you have always wanted to try or learn?

I would like to learn another language, I started to learn Korean a few years ago. I have since dropped it, but maybe this is a sign to pick it back up! I originally went to culinary school here in Louisville, so I definitely like to cook, but realized I enjoyed it as a hobby too much to make it a career. I enjoy continuing to learn new dishes and cuisines. Cooking is my favorite way to decompress, and to keep myself open to trying new things!

Important lesson you have learned in your career or that you would share with someone who is just starting out?

While I was waiting tables, I was unsure of what to do next. I thought I couldn’t find a job without a degree, and knowing I wanted to move on from what I was doing, I felt stuck. However, someone told me, "You are never stuck". That stuck (pun not intended) with me since, professionally, and personally.

To be honest, I’m just starting out in the world of office jobs, so if anyone has any advice for me…

But seriously, I think something that helped me at the beginning was never being afraid to continue learning, asking questions and to challenge yourself!

Favorite moment from your career?

I don’t think I have a single moment that truly sticks out for me. I’ve enjoyed the times where I’ve been able to help educate someone, so they leave having a better understanding than before, whether I'm helping them to understand their insurance coverages, ZoomInfo/Apollo, etc. I also think working with the marketing team has led to some significant moments 😊

Interesting hobby or pastime?

Honestly, I enjoy my alone time a lot just watching tv, reading, and gaming; BUT if I had to pick something I like to do outside of that – when I have the chance to go, I like to go snowboarding with my friends in Utah and Colorado.

I think the main theme you’ll see in my hobbies is that I enjoy traveling. One of my favorite trips was to Salt Lake City, Utah in January of ’19, when I visited a friend who lived in Park City. I enjoyed the short walk from her apartment to Park City Mountain, but it was also during the Sundance Film Festival, so we spent some time getting to experience that as well. While I’ve traveled mostly with friends and family, I would like to try solo traveling and traveling more out of the country.

I also like going to concerts, and if I can travel to go to a show, even better. I got to travel to Boston to see one of my favorite bands on their second to last show before they split up. While we were there, we stopped at Stanza Dei Sigari, an “underground” cigar parlor, where we smoked cigars and sipped espresso martinis. This might be a hot take, but that was also when I decided lobster rolls are not for me. 😊 I recently went to Chicago with my best friend, Miranda (shout out to my bestie) to go see Agust D, from BTS. That was one of my favorite concerts I’ve been to. Along with going to Bourbon and Beyond to see Bruno Mars, with our very own *drum roll please* Hannah Johnson!

Any funny life stories you would like to share?

Ah, well the most recent funny story that I can think of is lovingly clowning my mother. I turned 30 back in March and my mom, sister, and I are looking to take a trip to celebrate. My sister and I decided that we should go whale watching in Maine and while we are there go to Acadia National Park (in the U.S.). We proposed this idea to my mother, and she was all about it. But when we suggested also going to Acadia while we’re there her replay was, “We can go to Maine to whale watch but not to Acadia because I don’t have a passport”. So naturally, we change the family group chat name to ‘mom doesn’t have a passport ☹' which also means I must make this a bit for at least a little longer. That bit included creating a fake passport for her so that she can come with us to Acadia and putting it in the group chat.
