The East Coast’s Tech Problems Are Over

Written by Jessica Gassler | Mar 14, 2017 4:47:14 PM

Tech talent has been in high demand for years, but it seems as if there’s been even more of a notable drought recently. With an IT unemployment rate of less than 3% in some parts of the country, companies have been competing to get the top talent they deserve. Their struggle has finally come to an end with some exciting new changes that are happening in the area.

High Demand for Tech Talent

It’s no secret that Philadelphia isn’t known for its buzzing tech startups or latest augmented reality apps. Because of this, a significant amount of younger tech talent is looking west to the tech hub of Silicon Valley versus looking in what could be their own back yard.

A Philadelphia Company’s Pains

One of V-Soft’s larger clients is trying to move away from being known as “just” a media company. Instead, they want to be considered a technology company. They’re changing the way they do things internally to expand their offerings and become a stronger company. The technology they’re producing is cutting-edge; it’s the forefront of what people are doing today.

So what is their problem? The talent they want to acquire simply isn’t local. They’re having to pull resources anywhere from Manhattan to Silicon Valley. As you can expect, this comes at quite a cost. The company has been working diligently on making their culture more desirable and they are trying to paint the city they live in with a more attractive light in order to draw this top talent.

Central Pennsylvania’s Talent Gap

It can be very difficult for more advanced companies to acquire niche tech skills, especially if they aren’t located on the west coast. Companies hunger for app developers, network engineers, DevOps, and more. The struggles that businesses are currently facing are due to a combination of problems barreled together:

  • Baby boomers are leaving the workforce
  • Younger workers are moving to larger markets that offer more diverse opportunities
  • There is a technology gap that is difficult to manage due to the high cost of modernizing technical environments

The Advantage of Using V-Soft

V-Soft’s recent acquisition of MDT Technical has given Pennsylvania businesses new hope. Not only can V-Soft provide technical staffing, they are also capable of providing businesses with IT services with diverse practice areas. Whether it be making ServiceNow your new ITSM, developing a mobile app for your business, or anything in between, V-Soft has the talent and resources to get the job done.
