This month we are spotlighting Human Resources Director, Sherry Powers. Sherry is a new addition to the V-Soft family and has made an incredible impact since joining the company. From Day 1, Sherry was ready and willing to do what it takes to help improve the operations of V-Soft all while remaining true to V-Soft's values. We are so thankful for Sherry and all she does!
What Brought You to V-Soft?
Sherry with her husband and sons on vacation in Orlando, Florida.
I was searching for a challenging role where I could make a difference and learned from Chief Financial & Administrative Officer, Mike Grendi, that V-Soft was looking for an HR Director. Previously, I was Vice President of Human Resources with a wireless company and had fallen in love with technology and helping others, so the move to V-Soft was the perfect fit!
Any Interesting Stories in Your Line of Work?
Sherry receiving the HR Professional of the Year for Kentucky award.
While working in Human Resources, I have about seen it all: bomb threats, bed bugs, girl fights, thieves, FBI investigations, and fires...to name a few. I have no idea how this happened and it wasn’t “Miss America level” but I was awarded the HR Professional of the Year for Kentucky which was so amazing!
What Do You Enjoy Doing in Your Free Time?
Sherry and her fuzzy tarantula friend.
In my free time, my family and I often like to do things like biking, camping, and boating at Rough River! Basically, we love any kind of outdoor activity, which is why tarantulas don't bother me too much.
What's a Fun Fact About Yourself?
Sherry working security at a U2 concert with her husband Dale, and sons, Drew and Gaige.
Here are some facts about me:
- I have served as security for Bono at a U2 concert
- My family was the Grand Marshal of a Disney Main Street parade
- My husband and I were foster parents for five years, parenting over 20 children
- I met Danny Glover and said hello to Ronald Reagan
- I am a Board Member for Feeding America
- My family and I raise bees
Any Favorite Things to Do in Louisville?
Sherry with Mitch McConnell and wife, Elaine Chao, at the Kentucky Derby.
One of my favorite things to do in Louisville is attend and watch the Kentucky Derby. I graduated from the University of Louisville with my Master's Degree in Education, Training, and HR and fell in love with the city and found that the people that live here are the most interesting, passionate, and caring.
