Why You Need a ServiceNow Implementation, Even With HCMs

Written by Michael-Ross | Dec 6, 2016 3:31:15 PM

Even if you already use a Human Capital Management system such as Oracle or Workday, ServiceNow's service management tools can help your company come together to work more smoothly and efficiently.

Why Would I Still Need ServiceNow Implementation if I Already Use an HCM?

Service management integration from ServiceNow doesn't replace your HCM. It does, however, "integrate, compliment, augment, couple, and any other word that describes 'working together' to dramatically make things better. Service management gives you visibility and control of the work you are already doing, probably via email," according to ServiceNow's expert, Jen Stroud.

Stroud goes on to explain ServiceNow's integration process as they work with HCMs, "Systems like Workday, SuccessFactors, or Oracle are the system of record for HR, which means these systems hold all of the core HR data for the company. ServiceNow acts as the system of engagement for shared services — basically orchestrating across different departments and specializing in case management, work flows, portals and service catalogs." Simply put, if there is a request or fulfill task in the HR function, that's where ServiceNow comes in.

Many companies already use service management for their IT needs. Extending it to HR is a natural step to provide employees with a high-quality service experience. Service management software works with your HR system of record to streamline your HR services across the company."

Service Management, Onboarding and a Simple Interface, Oh My!

ServiceNow can help your company with onboarding tasks that may eat up valuable time.

It starts with a request that service management can break down, "such as getting a work space, credit card, security access, and phone – and then distributes these to the different departments for approval and action. It then tracks the status of each activity, and automatically reminds people if they’re behind schedule," according to our friend, Jen.

If something goes wrong, the activity is automatically escalated so that the problem can be fixed. This can eliminate some manual processes entirely. Service management can do things such as:

  • Create email accounts
  • Update HR systems automatically
  • Update finance systems automatically

But, is ServiceNow hard to learn to use? According to Jen, not at all! She says, "ServiceNow was designed in such a way to make configuration easy and manageable by someone who doesn’t have an IT background. Many HR teams are experiencing the power of being able to more closely manage their service delivery and make changes in the tool based on their experience and feedback from employees. They are not standing in line to get help for every single change they want to make. This is very empowering for HR."

While IT and HR will need to work together to successfully implement a ServiceNow solution, the ServiceNow platform can give HR the resources it needs to fend for itself with the small stuff - freeing up everyone's time to tackle the big stuff!
