Employee onboarding can be a long and arduous process. This particular pain point is something HR experts often experience as the same situation over and over: A new start comes in for her first day, excited and ready to get to work, only to be met with tons of red tape to be completed before any real work can get done. Luckily, ServiceNow's Service Management can help transform onboarding into a more streamlined, efficient experience.
The Problem with Your Current Process
Onboarding sounds like a simple process, but as hiring managers will tell you, it quickly becomes more convoluted than it seems on the surface. In addition to being a complex and time-consuming task, there isn’t one central source of information when it comes to onboarding. Managers coordinate and drive onboarding activities amongst themselves, facilities, HR, IT and other departments to make the process go smoothly. Being dependent on teams of other people means that activities can slip through the cracks and create last-minute issues.

How to Fix Onboarding Through ServiceNow Automation
Thankfully, ServiceNow HR Automation has a solution to these common ailments of growing businesses! In her blog, ServiceNow expert Jen Stroud offers up a few solutions to smoothing out onboarding processes:
By automating employee onboarding, HR can unburden hiring managers and create an experience for new employees that is welcoming and positive. ServiceNow’s HR Service Management allows a hiring manager to simply access a self-service portal, select what the new employee needs, and press a button. ServiceNow then distributes the needed activity to the matching team in HR, IT, security, etc. and tracks the status of each activity through completion.
“There’s no need for hiring managers to engage multiple departments and send dozens of follow-up emails. They can see the progress of all onboarding activities in real-time on an intuitive dashboard, giving them better visibility and control over how their new employee will experience their first day,” Stroud said.
Often, Stroud is asked if ServiceNow replaces HRIS systems. She says it doesn’t, but it does compliment these systems “by giving HR a single, reliable service framework for employees.”
